The 2025 World Athletics Championship takes place in Tokyo, Japan, 13-21 September 2025. The event is organized by the IAAF and will feature more than 2000 athletes from all over the world.
The prestigious competition is regarded as one of the biggest sporting events in the world, second only to the FIFA World Cup and Summer Olympic Games. The championships are held every two years and hosted by different cities.
While some might consider Worlds a bit of a practice run for the Olympics, the fact is that it can also showcase some of the most breathtaking performances ever seen on the track. Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt holds the record for most individual World Records at a single championship, with four, followed by American Carl Lewis with three and British athlete Jonathan Edwards with two.
Middle and long-distance races – including the 800m, 1500m, 5000m, and 10,000m – test an athlete’s ability to hold a strong pace over several laps. Hurdles – such as the 100m, 110m, and 400m – require quickness, agility, and precision as athletes navigate their way around barriers. Jumps – including the high jump, long jump, and triple jump – highlight an athlete’s ability to propel themselves through the air with tremendous force.
All of this makes Worlds a thrilling spectacle to behold and one that’s not to be missed by any sports fan. So, if you’re in the vicinity, snag some cheap tickets to see what all the hype is about.
