US Open Schedule and Off-Court Happenings

From the world’s best players battling it out on the main stage in Arthur Ashe Stadium to the hottest up-and-coming talent fighting for a place in the quarterfinals, there are plenty of interesting stories to watch unfold at this year’s US Open. The final Grand Slam of the season is set to start Sunday and run for two weeks at Flushing Meadows. Here’s everything you need to know about this year’s tournament — from the schedule and on-court action to the off-court happenings across New York City.

The first week of the US Open usually begins on a Monday, and this year is no exception. The tournament has added a day to the opening weekend, bringing it in line with the French and Australian Opens. In addition to the change, this year’s tournament features a longer main draw and expanded video review technology. All 17 competition courts will be equipped to handle reviews this year, up from eight last year.

In the men’s draw, 2022 titlist Jannik Sinner and 2017 champion Carlos Alcaraz are both seeded first in their respective sections. But both may face tough opponents in the early rounds, including home player Taylor Fritz and the youngest player to reach a Grand Slam semifinal — Czech teenager Jakub Mensik.

On the women’s side, top seed Aryna Sabalenka has a potentially tricky path to the final. She’ll begin against Rebeka Masarova, but could meet Wimbledon winners Elena Rybakina and Marketa Vondrousova in the fourth round. Other players to watch include Victoria Mboko, who won the Canadian Open this month, and Iga Swiatek, who regained her form at Wimbledon.
