Global forest fires are one of the most worrying environmental crises. The practice of clearing land for agriculture and plantations using fire is the main cause of forest fires. In Indonesia, peat fires to expand oil palm plantations have become a very controversial issue. These fires not only destroy forests, but also trigger haze which has an impact on public health in neighboring countries. The impact of forest fires is very broad. Habitat loss threatens rare species, and accelerates extinction. Burning biomass releases harmful particles into the air, resulting in pollution that is harmful to human health. Additionally, damaged ecosystems take a long time to recover, if they recover at all. Forest fire mitigation efforts involve various approaches. One of them is sustainable land management, including reforestation and rehabilitation of burned land. Fire monitoring with satellite technology is also an important tool in early detection. Additionally, community education about environmentally friendly farming practices can reduce reliance on burning methods. International cooperation is essential in dealing with this crisis. Countries need to share technology and strategies to manage fire risks. Agreements such as the Paris Agreement emphasize the importance of global collaboration in achieving reductions in carbon emissions, which in turn can help reduce the factors that cause forest fires. Public awareness also plays a crucial role in preventing forest fires. Through information campaigns, people can be taught about the impact of forest fires and the importance of protecting forests. A quick response from the government and related institutions in handling fires is the key to preventing greater damage. With the increasing frequency and intensity of forest fires around the world, it is important to continue monitoring the situation. Proactive and innovative policies are urgently needed to mitigate further damage and protect the environment.
